Psoriasis is a universal, chronic, immunologically mediated, recurrent, life-altering and often debilitating condition for which there are limited effective, safe and affordable treatment options and that can cause as much disability as cancer, diabetes or other major medical illness.
It is the most prevalent autoimmune disease in the U.S. The National Institute of Health estimated that in 2011 as many as 7.7 million Americans are affected by Psoriasis and that already in 2010 there were more than 470,033 psoriatic sufferers, 122,209 of which are uninsured and living in the state of Florida. More than 7,449 are Orange County residents.
Suffering is a part of life but too many people around the world (more than 278 millions) are needlessly suffering from painful skin conditions such as Psoriasis due to inadequate treatment options, lack of health insurance or insufficient access to care. There is no cure for most autoimmune diseases, and Psoriasis is not an exemption. Up to 30 percent of people with Psoriasis develop Psoriatic Arthritis (PsA) a condition which causes additional pain, stiffness and swelling in and around the joints.
We, at LIGHT FOR HOPE® share the desire that soon, a cure for psoriasis and all other life threatening conditions will be found. However until this come to pass, we must do more and this is why we are creating these Phototherapy Treatment Centers (PTC) where uninsured and underinsured patients can receive free of charge and under medical supervision a proven and highly effective treatment for their condition.
We are devoted to do our part to alleviate the suffering by providing an alternative and safe method for controlling these diseases. Our mission and values are more than just something to talk about; they guide all of our decisions. Help us bring an end to this suffering while raising awareness about these conditions.
Community support, through word of mouth, volunteerism and donations is the key to our success. Our organization completely depends on all our community members, business and corporations as well as individuals to fulfill our mission.
